VA Fun
(there are more links to our motorcycle riding adventures on the Scrapbook page)

July 26,27, 28, 2007: East Coast Rally, Newport News. What a whirlwind of fun and RIDING! Check out the cool rally journal and photos HERE!

Eating sushi after a LONG day of riding and rain!
July, 2007: Rob and Ray came down from Roanoke for a short ride around Danville to help me get used to my ACE T. Three Hogs and a T...

July 15, 2007: Our friends, Leon and Christie have a bunch of friendly chickens...one will even sit on your shoulder like a parrot! Too fun!

June 10, 2007: We rode out 58W, and down to Ridgeway, Eden, and back up 770 to Danville. 70 Miles; Dawn's first time as Road Captain.

In Ridgeway, there was a furniture place with these AWESOME tree trunk "couches"...which was a great place to stretch our legs! I got a "biker tan" on my hands from wearing my open-back leather gloves. We ended our ride with lunch at our local bike hang out, Stallings Restaurant.

Nature in our backyard!

Oct.26, 2007: During a multi-day rain deluge, Bella finds an Eastern Box Turtle. There is video of the turtle at the bottom of this page.

July 15, 2007: Deer in our yard. It is wonderful to look out our back door and see these sweet faces peering at us.

In the span of one month, the view in our back yard changed DRASTICALLY! We can no longer see the creek unless we hack our way through the woods, trying to avoid snakes, spiders, ticks and mosquitoes. When we get a heavy rain, we can hear the creek from our deck!

Left: April 2, 2007
Right: May 23, 2007

The hummingbirds are feeding like CRAZY. I can sit on the bench on our deck, which is only about 5 feet away from the feeder, and the birds coming zooming in to feed.

Click here to learn more about these harmless Worm snakes.
This poor little Worm Snake got chopped in half by the tractor blade yesterday. It was sad to see this little guy go lifeless before my eyes.

May 30, 2007

The babies are growing! The blue on their tails is so beautiful, and we are excited that the fledglings are healthy.

This tiny brown tree frog was on the deck.
Posted May 20, 2007

I discovered baby bluebirds in an old feeder!

Posted 3/3/07: Photos taken by the creek behind the house.

Posted 2/3/07: It snowed on the 1st; Bella never has seen it, so she had fun romping.
Posted 1/28/07: We were treated to some freezing rain last week. Brrr. YES, my Florida butt is cold! But, deer have been in the yard almost daily, so that almost makes up for it. :)

Guests

July 2007: Chris and Ingrid park their RV in Danville for a couple nights, and though it rained and we couldn't ride, we had a BLAST swapping stories.
June, 2007: Tom and Nancy visited for a long weekend. We laughed so much, shopped, ate, drank, and had a superb time with them. They were sweet enough to bring us a truckload of plants, which Tom, Nan, and John planted. Thank you! Right: John and Tommy direct Dawn around eBay looking for a bigger bike for Dawn. Can't I just get a GoldWing and get it over with??? ;)

How wonderful that the flowers  started to bloom before Tom and Nancy headed home!
January, 2007: Mom and Jack come to help us unpack boxes, which was a HUGE help, and kept my ribs from getting riled up. Thank you! We had a wonderful visit and were so sorry to see them leave. I can't believe that we didn't take ANY pictures during their visit!! DOH!

January, 2007: Bill McG drove up with John from FL with a truckload of our stuff. Any friend that will help you move is a gem, and any friend that will help shove a huge armoire up to the second floor of a house is an angel!!

Yard and Garden

June 9, 2007: Our friend, Jason, brought his 1956 Massey Ferguson tractor over to grade the area where John wants to place a garden shed. When we told Jason that we had plans to put a trail in the woods, he pointed that ol' tractor toward the trees and saved us a TON of physical labor!

We have met the kindest and most generous folks around here! I really thought I'd be missing FL lots by now, but we are both very, very happy in our little slice of woods. With Nature surrounding us, it's like living at a campground with a really nice place to shower and pee! LOL

We've seen so many new things here that we've had to order a few Audubon books which describe the birds, animals, plants, and rocks! I love learning!

May, 2007: John learns how to till, getting the yard ready for plants that Tom and Nancy are bringing from their garden when they come to visit. LEFT: The beginnings of my deck garden. Aldi's had potted roma tomato plants WITH herbs for only $5.99, so I couldn't pass them up. I split the herbs into various pots. I grew the tomatoes on the right (in the black pots) from seed.
