Gray skies this
AM, but warm and supposedly only a 20% chance of rain. C Nile (Barry)
came from Richmond to have me install his custom decals that I
airbrushed, and he expressed interest in hunting some Fairy Stones for a
neighbor. Denise showed up shortly after Barry arrived, and we rode out
58W.
Denise had
no idea that I had found a Fairy Stone Museum via the internet, so we
made a surprise stop on 58W just W of Martinsville. The museum was CHOCK
FULL of crosses from all over the world - the biggest ones being from
Russia. We bought a few
souvenirs and continued to
Haynes 57 for our
fairy stone prospecting. The sun came out on our way there, which was
wonderful.
Ready to hunt for some Fairy Stones?
Let's hit the woods!
|
We hunted for stones until
our tummies were grumbling from hunger, and then headed up Route 8 to
Tuggles Gap for lunch. Lots of bikes there today in the sunshine!
After lunch, we decided to
take the "Lizard Tail" (Route 8) all the way down to 58. Going downhill
on those twistys is so much easier for me than heading uphill. I had a
little baby rabbit run into the road a bit ahead of me, and then it
turned around when it got to the centerline and scooted straight for me!
I did not swerve on the curve, but was able to slow safely and missed
the critter by inches.
We got back to
Danville, and I went to work installing Barry's new artwork, and John
started to install Denise's auxiliary gas tank. Barry was so excited to
see the decals go on the bike, and Denise loves her new tank. |

The following stone pics are from the Fairy Stone Museum. I love quirky
little museums! It was very educational, and got us fired up for
prospecting!

Can you tell that I enjoy
the woods? |

The

Thoughts on my riding:
I am definitely getting better at those tight curves with the T! I am
learning what parts are giving me issues (like the tight uphill
switchbacks), correcting them, and enjoying the hell out of the rest of it.
I remember when going 45
on the bike seemed fast to me. Now I am comfy at 60, and spending
less time white-knuckled at 65 - 70 on the highway. Baby steps, I guess!
147 miles today. :) No problem!
May God Bless the chiropractors who got me back on my feet (and my
bike). Amen! |
Cool stuff today:
it's ALL good!
I love:
riding with friends,
a beautiful day to improve my riding skills,
the scenery in the mountains,
hanging out in the woods gettin' dirty hunting for rocks,
museums
(no matter how small),
wavin' at the other bikers on the road,
seeing a smile on someone's face when they pick up their
artwork... ...as I said, it's all good!

Thanks
for sharing the ride with us!
Until next time, keep the shiny side up!
